On the same night the eagerly anticipated re-match of Martin Rogan v Sam Sexton for the commonwealth heavyweight belt is taking place.Rogan was of course the fairytale story of Irish boxing coming from nowhere to win the prizefighter series,then to defeat ex olmypic gold medallist Audley harrisson and ex european and commonwealth champion matt Skelton before losing under controversial circumstances in the fist fight with sam sexton.A quick review of the Sexton fight shows that rogan up to 8th round was losing the fight and had a badly swollen left eye,but in the 8th round he had sexton out of it,sexton turned his back on rogan to stop the onslaught from him and another tactic he used was to spit his gumshield out and gesture towards the referee just as rogan was going to give the killer punch that could of won the fight.Rogan in lack of experience stopped and gave sexton enough time to recover and shortly afterwards on advice of the doctor the referee stopped the fight due to Rogans eye, so the 2nd  fight is bound to be a thriller with heated words already been exchanged between them leading up to the fight.

Other irish boxers holding notable belts are John O’Donnell who is the current commonwealth welterweight champion and Stephen Haughian who is the irish welterweight champion a fight between these two would be an exciting prospect with both only having one defeat on there records and is surely a fight for the future. Andy Murray is the current EU lightweight champion and is undefeated,a coulple of defences of that title and he should be able to move on to challenge for the full european belt.Martin Lindsay is the current British featherweight champion after  defeating the very exciting highly thought of previously undefeated scottish fighter Paul Appleby, Lindsay who already has been offered an eliminator for the IBF belt which they turned down is making his first defence of his belt in the coming months.The Hyland brothers (Paul Patrick and Eddie)are also highly thought of among boxing circles with all three holding Irish Titles and Patrick and Eddie holding IBF international belts.Out of the three Patrick is undefeated and is a possible fringe world championship level boxer,with Eddie and Paul at european level which is still a highly regarded level considering the population of europe.
Ireland also has some big named boxers based in the US notably John Duddy and Andy Lee.John Duddy has twice been only one fight away from world title fight against Kelly Pavlik only to perform badly in one figth and to lose in the next fight.He is once again being spoken of  being two fights away from a fight with Kelly Pavlik,so hopefully its third time lucky for John.While Andy Lee has been spoken of on both sides of the Atlantic as the next middleweight champion,he is tall for his weight at 6,2 which is a good advantage for him,he suffered one pro loss to Brian Vera and since that has won all three fights although has not performed to the level he should of,he is fighting in Limerick on 14th of Nov against the French and EU champion Affif Belghecham in what should be a good but winnable test for him.

And finally two other future irish prospects to lookout for  based state side are steven ormonde and the freddie roach trained and co-managed fighter Dean Byrne.
